Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn't Speed Gel smell or feel hot/cold like other muscle rubs?
Speed Gel contains no menthol or salicylate (wintergreen). Other rubs give a false sense, or placebo effect, by making the skin feel hot or cold—thereby only masking the pain instead of treating it. Speed Gel delivers powerful, anti-inflammatory ingredients to the site of the injury, treating the causes of pain, bruising and inflammation.

Does Speed Gel work for arthritis?
Yes. Speed Gel's anti-inflammatory ingredients can penetrate deep into joints to help relieve the pain, stiffness and other symptoms of arthritis.

How much Speed Gel do I need to apply?
A small amount of Speed Gel can be very effective; just a few drops will cover an area about the size of the top of your hand.

What areas respond best to the anti-inflammatory properties of Speed Gel?
Any areas where muscles, joints and tendons are relatively close to the surface, especially: fingers, wrists, elbows, neck, ankles, feet, hands, shoulders, knees and major muscles.

How large of an area around an injury should I apply the Speed Gel?
When treating joints like the knee, it is best to use enough Speed Gel to cover around the entire joint.

How long does it take for Speed Gel to work?
Acute injuries like sprains or inflammation in fingers, ankles or muscles will respond to Speed Gel within minutes and will quickly recover. Repetitive use injuries will respond to Speed Gel therapy in the first few days, but these areas should be treated consistently for about a month for the best results.

How often do I need to apply Speed Gel?
Speed Gel should be applied four times daily for best results.

Will Speed Gel stain my clothing?
Usually not. Speed Gel is a clear/amber-colored gel, so in the event that discoloration of the clothes does occur it will generally wash out. Always make sure the Speed Gel is rubbed in, absorbed and dry before putting on clothing.

I have a bad back, will Speed Gel help?
Yes. Speed Gel penetrates deep into the tissue, relieving inflammation and stiffness in the back. An oral NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) might increase effectiveness, but your doctor will be the best judge of this.

I am currently taking a Cox 1 or Cox 2 NSAID. Can I use Speed Gel as well?
Speed Gel is not a Cox 1 or Cox 2 NSAID, and can be used in combination with these and other NSAIDs. It would be best to check with your doctor before taking both.

Do I have to eat before/immediately after I apply Speed Gel?
No. Food requirements are generally associated with oral pain relievers and medications, when chemicals can interact with the digestive system. Speed Gel is a topical treatment, thereby eliminating any requirement to eat before or after application.

Can Speed Gel cause damage to my kidneys or stomach? Can it cause a heart attack or stroke?
No. Unlike oral NSAIDs or Cox 2 drugs, Speed Gel will not cause or increase your risk of any of these problems.
